Posted on 20/04/2010 in Pharmaceutical Company Product News Ferring has published a new report underlining the need to provide prostate cancer patients with more support and information to cope with the lifestyle implications of the disease.
The pharmaceutical company commissioned an international survey called Managing Prostate Cancer, which revealed that many patients and their partners do not feel satisfied with the level of education provided on the cancer's emotional and sexual impact.
It was found that a majority of those polled felt that such matters were not discussed during consultations or diagnosis, while 90 per cent said they could have benefited from talking to someone with experience in dealing with the disease.
Bertrand Tombal, a professor at the Cliniques universitaires Saint-Luc in Brussels, said this survey showed that healthcare professionals must do more to offer patients emotional support throughout their treatment.
He said: "It is important that doctors spend time discussing with patients the benefits of treatment as well as the management of side-effects to achieve the best quality of life possible."
Earlier this month, Ferring revealed that it will be co-promoting the non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug Zipsor in association with Xanodyne, a move which allows it to expand its orthopaedic offerings.Other news stories from 20/04/2010
