Bayer HealthCare makes haemophilia charity contribution

19th April 2010

Bayer HealthCare is to donate 250,000 euros (220,700 pounds) to the World Federation of Haemophilia (WFH) in order to support its fight against the illness.

The healthcare group, which encompasses Bayer Schering Pharma, made its latest annual contribution on World Haemophilia Day, with the money set to help the charity conduct initiatives to improve the treatment and diagnosis of the illness.

In addition to this, employees of Bayer HealthCare around the world are also organising a number of community activities to raise awareness of the condition, such as competitions, information booths and professional symposia.

Michael Mathews, vice-president and therapeutic area head of haematology at Bayer HealthCare Pharmaceuticals, also underlined the company’s efforts to fight haemophilia by developing new treatments and services.

He said: “We at Bayer are profoundly aware of the human impact haemophilia has on people living with the disorder and are equally passionate about helping them.”

According to Bayer’s most recent financial report, the firm saw record-high cashflow levels in the 2009 fiscal year, with the strong performance of its healthcare division cited as a contributing factor.
