Posted on 15/04/2010 in Animal Health Supplier News Bayer Animal Health has underlined the risk posed by canine vector-borne diseases (CVBD) following a recent international symposium discussing the conditions.
The veterinary medicines firm has called on animal health professionals to exercise vigilance on briefing pet owners about illnesses such as Lyme disease, ehrlichiosis and cat scratch fever.
This comes after the CVBD World Forum, an organisation supported by Bayer Animal Health, staged the fifth Annual CVBD Symposium, which brought together experts from countries including the UK, US, France and Germany.
Attendees at the event raised concerns that many vector-borne illnesses which were previously considered rare are now growing in prevalence, due to factors such as global animal movement and climate adjustments.
Cristiano von Simson, director of veterinary technical services at Bayer Animal Health, said: "As we look at all the data from the CVBD Symposium, the need for increased disease prevention was the clear outcome."
The company is also currently conducting a campaign to raise awareness of the danger posed by lungworm, parasites borne by slugs and snails that are often ingested by dogs.Other news stories from 15/04/2010
