Posted on 25/03/2010 in Medical Company Product News 3M Health Care has underlined the potential cost saving benefits its DuraPrep Surgical Solutions system can offer in comparison to other methods of surgical preparation.
The company has presented results from a budget impact analysis comparing the cost of the DuraPrep paint-on application to both povidone-iodine (PI) scrub paint and ChloraPrep Patient Preoperative Skin Preparation from CareFusion.
It was found that DuraPrep offered a lower cost per unit than ChloraPrep, while providing faster preparation protocols than PI, making it the most cost-effective method overall.
Dr Angie Carlson, lead researcher on the analysis and director of research firm Data Intelligence, said this meant the product can play a key role in optimising hospital costs without compromising quality of service.
She added: "DuraPrep Surgical Solution could save an institution more than $100,000 (66,800 pounds) in incremental costs from treating surgical site infections
Last month, the company allied with Patient Care Technology Systems to develop a new system designed to monitor and enforce hand hygiene standards in healthcare facilities.Other news stories from 25/03/2010
