Bayer has launched a new brand name which will encompass all of the company's forthcoming innovations in materials for medical devices.
The healthcare and chemical company has established the Baymedix trade name, which will cover existing product lines in addition to new materials designed to meet specialised needs in the medical sector.
These include its hydrophilic CH coatings and drug-eluting CD coatings, as well as upcoming developments such as AT topical tissue adhesives and FG foams for wound dressings.
Chris Koppenborg, a medical products specialist at Bayer MaterialScience, said the initiative, which will also involve the establishment of dedicated production lines, will allow it to develop a "strong brand identity" in the medical device sector.
He added: "We want the Baymedix name to become synonymous with service, quality and innovation in this industry."
Last month, the company published its financial results for 2009 and hailed the year as one of its strongest yet, with its healthcare division seeing sales growth of 3.8 per cent.
