BD Diagnostics launches new infection tracking software

BD Diagnostics has introduced a new software solutions package which allows clinicians to monitor and control the spread of infectious illnesses.

The company’s BD Protect Infection Surveillance and Data Management System consists of three different modules and allows for analysis of patient and worker health data in order to signal potential outbreaks.

Through real-time tracking of infection related-events, the company states that healthcare professionals can respond to situations more effectively, while the system is also capable of measuring progress towards safety goals.

Philippe Jacon, president of diagnostic systems at BD Diagnostics, described the system as a “natural complement” to its assays for detecting infectious organisms.

He said: “This strategic expansion of BD’s portfolio enables us to provide a set of integrated information solutions to clinicians striving to reduce the incidence and transmission of infections in their facilities.”

Earlier this month, BD was named by Fortune Magazine as one of the world’s most admired companies, based on criteria such as financial performance, management quality and global competitiveness.
