Posted on 12/03/2010 in Medical Company Product News Medtronic has introduced a new medical device designed to assist surgeons in performing spinal surgery.
The Vertex Select Reconstruction System comprises a set of implants and instruments, including a range of plates, rods, screws, and hooks, in order to provide occipitocervical upper-thoracic fixation.
This system can be used in conjunction with the company's Vertex Select Occipitocervical Module and is designed to be adjustable, allowing procedures to be tailored to suit patient needs.
Medtronic states that these attributes make the system beneficial to medical professionals performing spinal fusions for patients with conditions such as degenerative disc disease, spinal stenosis or dislocation.
It described the Vertex Select device as being the "next generation of occipitocervical upper-thoracic fixation".
Last week, the medical device company was listed in the Massachusetts Institute of Technology's Technology Review journal's list of the 50 most innovative companies, recognising its advances in developing treatments for neurological conditions.Other news stories from 12/03/2010
