Nikon makes charitable donation to Chile

Posted on 09/03/2010 in Scientific

Nikon has committed to making a donation of financial aid to help victims of the recent earthquake in Chile.

The science and electronics firm is to donate a total of two million yen (14,900 pounds) to assist those affected by the natural disaster, which took place on February 27th 2010.

This donation has been made via the Japanese Red Cross Society and is designed to finance efforts to assist not only the victims themselves, but also programmes to help salvage the affected area.

Nikon added that it wishes to express its "profound sympathy and condolences" to all those impacted by the tragedy.

Last month, the company published its financial report for the nine-month period ending on December 31st 2009, during which the company experienced a 15.6 per cent downturn in its sales.

Despite this, the company has forecast that its performance will improve in the coming months, based on encouraging results in the most recent quarter.
