Mr McGill joins the company from his prior role as vice-president and global manager at fellow healthcare firm Wyeth, while he has also held senior positions at Novartis and Roche.
The company states that this represents the completion of its recent executive and commercial restructuring initiatives, which it is hoped will allow the company to achieve profitable sales growth in the coming year.
Mr McGill said that the infrastructural changes mean that the firm is now poised to progress in line with its largest competitors.
He added: "I welcome the opportunity to contribute to that progress, as we focus on aggressive organic growth and further product in-licensing and acquisition."
The firm's restructuring activities in the last year-and-a-half have also seen the appointment of a new chief financial officer in David Cook, as well as the addition of Nigel Pitchford to the board of directors.Other news stories from 09/03/2010
