AstraZeneca publishes trial results from Recentin study

AstraZeneca has published results from a clinical trial of Recentin, which compared the performance of the colorectal cancer treatment with alternative drug Avastin.

Although the treatment was not able to outperform Avastin in the phase II/III study, meaning that it did not meet its primary endpoint, the company is still considering the drug’s potential benefits.

The study is one of two pivotal clinical studies trialling Recentin in conjunction with chemotherapy, with data from the second trial due to be released later this year.

In addition, the drug is also being studied as a potential treatment for sufferers of recurrent glioblastoma.

Alan Barge, AstraZeneca vice-president and head of oncology, said: “The results of the second pivotal study ? will provide further information on whether RECENTIN may provide benefit for patients with colorectal cancer and will inform any decision about possible regulatory filings.”

Earlier this month, the company acquired full rights to a number of drugs which were developed in partnership with Merck Sharpe and Dohme, including Entocort, Plendil and Atacand.
