Posted on 02/03/2010 in Pharmacy Supplier News Bayer has released a new blood glucose meter which uses USB plug-and-play technology to provide convenient access to blood test results.
The Contour USB system works together with the company's Contour blood glucose test strips and allows diabetes patients to instantly view their glucose levels by plugging it into a computer.
It also comes equipped with Bayer's Glucofacts Deluxe software, which helps users to identify trends and patterns based on their individual readings.
Dr David Simmons, chief medical officer for Bayer Diabetes Care, said this will allow patients to become more informed about their own condition and to discuss medication adjustments with physicians.
He added: "Now, this is a two-way conversation and patients are better able to understand the logic behind such treatment adjustments, incorporating them into their daily routine with greater ease."
This follows research published by Bayer Diabetes Care last year which suggested that the parents of many children with diabetes would be unable to recognise the symptoms of a dangerous low blood glucose episode due to lack of education.Other news stories from 02/03/2010
