| Surgeons call for NHS 'passports' to cuts delays in child services | Posted on 26/02/2010 in Medical Government/ NHS related news Senior medical figures are calling for a new 'passport system' to be rolled out for NHS staff which would allow them to work for different trusts across the health service.
Proposals from the Royal College of Surgeons (RCS) have suggested that NHS staff who have already received an enhanced criminal records bureau (CRB) check for one trust should not have to undergo the new vetting and barring scheme, which can take months.
Under current arrangements specialised surgeons are restricted to working on one site which the RBS claims can restrict flexibility in terms of covering colleagues.
John Black, president of the RCS, said: "The college has flagged up this situation with government on three separate occasions in a three-month period - That surgeons are still faced with this situation is simply unbelievable."
Su-Anna Boddy, consultant paediatric urologist, backed the recommendations, stating that the current system is weighing prospective doctors down with unnecessary bureaucracy when they should be focused on training.Other news stories from 26/02/2010
