Purina arranges $280k Haiti donation

Purina’s parent company Nestle is to make a donation of approximately $280,000 (£183,000) to earthquake victims in Haiti on the recommendation of the animal care company.

The consumer conglomerate will make the contribution to the charity group Meds and Food for Kids after becoming aware of the organisation via the Nestle Purina PetCare Company.

As a result of this donation, the charity will be able to step up production of food supplies to send to the country, as well as helping to fund the establishment of a food processing facility in the nation.

Nestle Purina PetCare Company is also planning to organise a reception in honour of the charity and its founder Dr Patricia Wolff at its US headquarters.

Dr Wolff said: “This is one of the largest contributions we’ve ever received and will directly support increased production and distribution of life-saving, nutritious food in Haiti.”

This comes after the company’s Cat Chow business unit made a donation of $20,000 to the cancer charity Susan G Komen for the Cure in October 2009.
