Posted on 19/02/2010 in Animal Health Supplier News Pfizer Animal Health has won approval from the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for Excede Sterile Suspension, a new antibiotic product designed for horses.
The cephalosporin antibiotic is indicated for animals suffering from lower respiratory tract infections and works as a sustained release treatment, meaning that fewer injections are needed.
According to the firm, this will allow owners and caretakers to achieve effective results from treatment without needing to distress and damage their relationship with the horse.
Dr Thomas Lenz, senior director of equine veterinary services at Pfizer Animal Health, stated that this follows on from the successful introduction of the drug in the cattle and swine sectors.
He added: "A long-acting antimicrobial will allow equine veterinarians to achieve optimal compliance with minimal dosing, a true innovation compared to current therapeutic regimens."
Pfizer's Animal Health division was reorganised significantly towards the end of 2009 in order to incorporate new products from Wyeth subsidiary Fort Dodge, following the merger between the two firms.Other news stories from 19/02/2010
