ALK Abello reports success from phase III trial of Grazax

16th February 2010

ALK Abello has reported a successful conclusion to a recent phase III clinical trial of Grazax, its new tablet-based allergy immunotherapy treatment.

Fellow pharmaceutical company Merck Sharpe and Dohme, ALK Abello’s strategic partner, was responsible for conducting the trial, which focused on paediatric patients.

The trial was intended to gauge the effectiveness of the drug among those with a history of grass pollen-induced rhinoconjunctivitis with or without
Asthma, with the results compared against a group of patients trialled using placebo.

ALK Abello reported that the trial was able to meet its primary endpoint when results were collated across the grass pollen season.

The full findings of the study are now set to be presented by Merck Sharpe and Dohme at the forthcoming annual meeting of the American Academy of Allergy Asthma and Immunology, which takes place at the end of the month.

Earlier this month, the firm revealed that further clinical studies of Grazax have allowed it to ascertain the long-term effectiveness of the drug’s disease-modifying attributes.
