Nalco commits to water sustainability

10th February 2010

Nalco this week announced that it will extend its commitment to the United Nations’ (UN’s) water-saving initiative by improving its own sustainability programme.

The company has pledged to support and advance water sustainability solutions within its reach in the six areas covered by the UN’s CEO Water Mandate.

These are direct operations, supply chain and watershed management, collective action, public policy, community engagement and transparency.

Chairman and chief executive of Nalco Erik Fyrwald stated in a letter to Ban Ki-Moon: “As the global leader in industrial water treatment, we recognise water use and availability is a critical […] issue that negatively impacts millions.”

As part of the firm’s ongoing support for the plans, it will aim to set its own internal targets for use of the resource in the future.

In other recent Nalco news, the firm announced its 2009 financial results this week, revealing sales of $3.75 billion (2.40 billion pounds) for the period.
