Genyme announces details of new appointment

Posted on 04/02/2010 in Pharmaceutical Company Restructures

Genzyme has announced the appointment of a new president of global manufacturing and corporate operations.

Scott Canute, who formerly held the position of head of manufacturing at Eli Lilly, will take up the role, assuming responsibility for the production of items manufactured across 17 of the company's sites worldwide.

At Eli Lilly, Mr Canute directed all manufacturing and supply chain activities for the company, which incorporated 24 global manufacturing sites and in excess of 80 contract manufacturing operations.

He has been involved in the sector for 25 years, resolving Food and Drug Administration letters, managing multiple product launches and working on the development of new manufacturing sites.

"Scott Canute is among the very top people in the pharmaceutical manufacturing field," Henri Termeer, Genzyme's chairman and chief executive officer, commented. "He is widely respected for transforming manufacturing operations at Lilly and establishing its programmes as a standard for the industry."

Last week, Genzyme revealed that its Pompe disease therapy Lumizyme (alglucosidase alfa) has been granted a six-month review period by the Food and Drug Administration.
