The firm's consolidated net sales reached 306.1 billion yen (2.126 billion pounds), while the organisation's operating income stood at 28.2 billion yen.
Additionally, the firm revealed its forecast for 2010, predicting a 16.4 per cent rise in operating income for the full year.
Yuzuru Matsuda, president and chief executive officer of Kyowa Hakko Kirin, said that the firm's results were affected in 2009 by factors such as the "slow recovery" of the global economy.
He added: "Based on our strong financial foundations, we will continue to evolve from our foundations in biotechnology to become a world-class research and development life sciences group, focused on pharmaceuticals."
