29 January 2010 00:00 in Scientific
Life Technologies, which was established following the merger between Invitrogen and Applied Biosystems, has announced the launch of its latest piece of equipment - the SOLiD 4 Sequencing System.
The product, which the firm claimed is the most advanced next-generation genomic analysis sequencing system on the market, is capable of generating a maximum of 100 gigabases of mappable sequence data per run for $6,000 (3,715 pounds) per genome.
Using proprietary advances in sequencing chemistry, the system is available as an upgrade for all SOLiD installations.
Gregory Lucier, chairman and chief executive officer of Life Technologies, commented: "This system is another example of why the Applied Biosystems brand has been synonymous with cutting edge sequencing technology for more than two decades."
Earlier this month, Life Technologies announced that it will acquire AcroMetrix, a firm that supplies molecular and serological diagnostic quality control products to blood screening centres, laboratories and in-vitro diagnostic manufacturers.
