GlaxoSmithKline announces Haiti relief contributions

Posted on 19/01/2010 in Pharmaceutical Company Product News

GlaxoSmithKline revealed this week that it has initiated a relief programme for the aid efforts taking place in Haiti.

The firm has already donated $1.4 million (852,514 pounds) worth of medicines to the country from the stocks of its partners, including Direct Relief International and International Medical Assistance.

Included in the products that GlaxoSmithKline has already distributed are topical and oral antibiotics, such as Zovirax, Zinacef, Zantac, Bactroban, Augmentin and Ceftin.

The firm is now evaluating its available stock in order to meet the needs of its established partners that are aiming to respond to Haiti's calls for help.

As well as these donations, the company has also pledged approximately 250,000 pounds to the British Red Cross to help maintain water supplies and sanitation standards following the disaster.

This week, GlaxoSmithKline revealed that it shipped around 130 million doses of its H1N1 vaccine to various countries around the world during the fourth quarter of 2009.
