Boston Scientific instigates TAXUS Liberte Stent study

11th January 2010

Boston Scientific has revealed that the first participants have enrolled in its TAXUS Liberte Stent clinical trial.

The study will evaluate real-world clinical outcomes data for the TAXUS Liberte Paclitaxel-Eluting Coronary Stent System.

It will be examined in combination with a dual antiplatelet therapy drug regimen that includes the new antiplatelet treatment Effient and aspirin.

Eli Lilly and Daiichi Sankyo, which manufacturers Effient, are co-sponsors of the research.

The primary endpoint of the research is to reduce the rate of cardiac deaths or incidents of myocardial infarction after a period of 12 months.

Keith Dawkins, senior vice-president and associate chief medical officer at Boston Scientific, commented: “The TAXUS Liberte post-approval study will allow us to further assess the second-generation TAXUS Liberte Stent […] in a variety of complex lesions.”

In other Boston Scientific news, the firm appointed Nelda Connors to its board of directors last month – the current president of the electrical and metal products division of Tyco International.
