| RCVS supports launch of new EMS resource | Posted on 04/01/2010 in Vet / Veterinary Surgeon News The Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (RCVS) has announced its support for an improved Extra Mural Studies (EMS) facility for students.
The web-based initiative was developed thanks to cooperation between the University of Edinburgh and the Royal Veterinary College (RVC).
According to the veterinary body, those preparing for EMS placements will find the application process easier in the future with the introduction of the new online tool.
One of the project's developers, Dr Sarah Baillie of the RVC, explained that the system can help students to avoid some of the "common pitfalls" of their placements.
"Vets say they take on students as they want to support the future generation of vets - they are not paid to provide EMS," explained Dr Catriona Bell, who also helped to develop the facility.
The RCVS performs three main roles - statutory regulator, royal college and a trust - to uphold industry standards and offer information and support to established veterinarians and those training in the field. Other news stories from 04/01/2010
