Posted on 29/12/2009 in Pharmacy Supplier News GlaxoSmithKline has announced that it will work alongside NanoBio to provide pharmacies with a new over-the-counter cold sore treatment.
The agreement applies to NB-001, which is a novel, patented compound developed by NanoBio that provides antimicrobial activity against the virus that causes cold sores - herpes labialis.
As part of the contract, NanoBio will receive an upfront payment of $14.5 million (nine million pounds) and is eligible to receive milestone payments of up to $40 million plus single digit royalties in the future.
Roger Scarlett-Smith, president of GlaxoSmithKline consumer healthcare, commented: "We are always looking for innovations that bring value to the consumer. This agreement with NanoBio strengthens our leadership position in the cold sore category."
In other GlaxoSmithKline news, the organisation revealed earlier this month that a second phase III trial into the investigational Lp-PLA2 inhibitor darapladib is to take place.
