Posted on 17/12/2009 in Pharmaceutical Company Product News Pfizer has announced that its Toviaz (fesoterodine fumarate) 8 mg extended release tablets had a more significant effect on patients with urge urinary incontinence episodes than Detrol LA (tolterodine tartrate extended release capsules).
In a statement, the pharmaceutical organisation explained that these results were achieved in a placebo-controlled randomised clinical trial.
The firm found that, by week 12 of the study, which is published in the January issue of the journal BJU International, patients who took Toviaz 8 mg had greater and statistically significant reductions in such episodes.
Pfizer explained that the trial was the first head-to-head superiority study that was specifically designed to compare both treatments.
Commenting, lead author of the project Dr Sender Herschorn said: "This new data provides important information to physicians making treatment decisions for patients with overactive bladder, since it compares two available medicines."
Earlier this month, Pfizer announced that it had received European marketing authorisation for the pneumococcal conjugate vaccine, Prevenar 13* (Pneumococcal Polysaccharide Conjugate Vaccine [13-valent, adsorbed]).Other news stories from 17/12/2009
