Allianz Animal Health Insurance issues pet overindulgence warning
Posted on 15/12/2009 in Veterinary Supplier News
Allianz Animal Health Insurance has issued a reminder to its customers about the dangers of overindulging their pets at Christmas time.
According to research undertaken by its division Petplan, 54 per cent of Brits have fed their pets Christmas dinner, while 20 per cent of 18 to 24-year-olds said that they have overfed their furry friends during the festive season.
However, other hazards the firm is warning against include road salt - which can dry out an animal's paws so much that they crack and bleed - and antifreeze.
Petplan's vet of the year Ben Jones commented: "It's important to keep your pet to a regular diet and avoid treats such as chocolate. Remember the best Christmas present to give your pets is lots of cuddles and exercise."
Earlier this month, Allianz Animal Health Insurance joined with PetPlan to introduce Allianz Practice Protect - an employment service specially designed for veterinarians.
