Posted on 15/12/2009 in Veterinary Supplier News Idexx has announced the availability of Idexx H1N1 Influenza Virus RealPCR - a test that is capable of detecting the presence of the virus in canines and felines.
The firm has released the product following growing concern from veterinarians and pet owners about the spread of the virus and allows vets to diagnose and manage those animals suspected of suffering from the condition.
H1N1 has been identified as the cause of respiratory diseases in cats and ferrets since the outbreak of the virus, the organisation points out, and it is believed that these infections could have been passed on by some pet owners.
Christian Leutenegger, regional head of molecular diagnostics at Idexx reference laboratories, stated: "Offering the H1N1 Influenza Virus RealPCR Test with the Feline Upper Respiratory Disease and Canine Respiratory Disease RealPCR panels will help practitioners identify and differentiate multiple causes of respiratory infection."
In other Idexx news, the firm unveiled an updated version of its Cornerstone Dashboard Report last month - a free summary that provides at-a-glance insight into veterinary practice performance. Other news stories from 15/12/2009
