| NHS launches enquiry into theft | Posted on 14/12/2009 in Medical Government/ NHS related news The NHS has launched an enquiry into its security measures, following the theft of valuable items in recent years, it has emerged.
Among the equipment that has been stolen is a mobile scanner unit in Corby, satellite navigation systems from ambulances and supplies of laughing gas.
The NHS Security Management Service stated that the NHS is vulnerable and could be an easy target for thieves.
Reports state that there have been 57 claims made for equipment worth over £20,000 in the last five years.
Jill Abethell, who is heading the investigation for the security service, explained: "We have decided to look at theft as we believe it is a real problem. We want to find out more so we can look to see if measures can be taken to protect property."
In other NHS equipment news, last week the organisation launched a new range of uniforms in Scotland, as part of its efforts to synchronise employees' clothes so patients can better identify them according to their expertise.
