The NHS has made a new iPhone application available that can help people to monitor how many units of alcohol they drink on a night out.
By making use of the new resource, those planning to watch their weight or alcohol intake can keep track of the units they have consumed and are informed by the application when they are drunk.
It is free to download from the iTunes store and has been launched as part of the government's Know Your Limits campaign.
The application can also help people to keep track of their drinking over several weeks and months and offers personalised feedback on their alcohol consumption.
Public health minister Gillian Merron is quoted by the BBC as saying: "Sticking within the recommended limits means you reduce the risk of serious conditions such as mouth cancer and strokes."
Earlier this year, statistics compiled by Oxford University researchers showed that the NHS spends around 3 billion pounds annually on treating drink-related health issues.
