Posted on 24/11/2009 in Pharmaceutical Company Product News Basilea has revealed new data on its anti-tumour drug candidate BAL27862 at the International Conference on Molecular Targets and Cancer Therapeutics.
The results presented indicate that BAL27862 demonstrates significant activity against a panel of non-small cell lung cancer cell lines, including patient-derived tumour cells resistant to the common treatment paclitaxel.
This suggests that the drug has the potential for a distinct anti-cancer profile, according to the firm, supporting further evaluation for the treatment of a variety of tumours.
Strong activity against glioblastoma cell lines - associated with a dramatic increase in tumor cell death ? was also observed during the trial.
BAL27862, which is a novel intravenous and orally bioavailable small molecule, targets tumour cells by disrupting the microtubule scaffold, which instigates the division of cells.
Last month, Basilea revealed that its chronic hand eczema oral treatment Toctino (alitretinoin) was approved for marketing in Switzerland, after being made available in the UK.
