Almirall's net sales rise by 2.4%

Posted on 17/11/2009 in Pharmaceutical Company Product News

Almirall has published its financial results for the third quarter of 2009, reporting a rise in net sales of 2.4 per cent.

This raised the company's overall net sales for the period to 701.3 million euros (624.1 million pounds).

Earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortisation during the first nine months of the year totalled 210.3 million euros - a figure that has fallen by 3.3 per cent.

Additionally, the firm invested 81.5 million euros in research and development - 13.6 per cent less than in 2008. This was due to lower expenditure in a phase III trial carried out for Eklira (aclidinium bromide), it stated.

"Sustained growth by Almirall's sales up to the third quarter is a reflection of the progressive achievement of the objectives set within our corporate and commercial strategy," commented chairman and chief executive of the firm Jorge Gallardo.

Earlier this month, Almirall announced that it had made an equity investment of $15 million (8.9 million pounds) in Ironwood as part of a rights agreement over the drug linaclotide.
