Posted on 05/11/2009 in Pharmaceutical Company Product News GlaxoSmithKline and Pfizer have announced the launch of their jointly-run firm, which is dedicated to developing new methods of HIV care and treatment.
The company, which is entitled ViiV Healthcare, aims to tackle the increasingly complex needs of people living with HIV and AIDS around the world.
Dr Dominique Limet, chief executive officer of ViiV, explained that the new organisation is aiming to get closer to those with the disease in order to understand the approach it needs to take.
Mr Limet stated: "We will explore the potential of all our molecules for broader utility, for example to create new formulations and combinations that can help improve adherence or overcome resistance to the virus."
He added that ViiV is also actively seeking new opportunities to collaborate with other firms to leverage the best methods available.
Last month, GlaxoSmithKline announced that so far this autumn, half a million people across Europe have already been administered its H1N1 vaccine as part of various government programmes.
