Christiana Clogg, co-founder of thegoodsurgeonguide.co.uk, pointed out that as long as people do research about the surgeon who will carry out the operation, then it can be a good gift.
She made her comments following a survey by the company, which indicated that 54 per cent of people would love to receive cosmetic surgery as a present.
Ms Clogg explained: "The standard scarf or bottle of fragrance is no longer the wish of many people and surgery is becoming popular."
As it is such an important procedure, it is essential to find a "reputable surgeon", she added.
Last week, US plastic surgeon Dr Michel Siegel suggested that having cosmetic surgery could help older people compete with younger generations in the job market, as it can freshen their appearance.
