NHS: Computer game great for fitness

The government’s anti-obesity initiative Change4Life has granted Nintendo permission to use its logo on its forthcoming game the Wii Fit Plus, it has been reported.

According to the Telegraph, the game and its accessories are being approved by the Department of Health (DoH) as a piece of equipment contributing to the fitness and health of Brits.

As part of the endorsement, Nintendo has been granted permission to use the Change4Life logo in its TV advertisements and publicity drives.

The newspaper quotes a spokesperson for the DoH as saying: “Active video games, where kids need to jump up and down or dance about as part of the game, are a great way to get kids moving.”

Wii Fit Plus is an extension of the Wii Fit application and will include activities that measure the users’ strength, balance and fitness levels, as well as a yoga-focused feature.

It will be launched across Europe on October 30th 2009.
