Lilly achieves energy reduction goals ahead of schedule

Posted on 26/10/2009 in Pharmaceutical Company Product News

Lilly has revealed that it has reached its energy efficiency goals ahead of the timeframe originally set out.

The firm has managed to reduce its absolute greenhouse emissions by 4.4 per cent since 2004 - an achievement it did not anticipate making until 2011.

Additionally, Lilly has improved its energy intensity by over 35 per cent and has decreased its use of absolute energy by 5.8 per cent.

It has now set new 2013 goals to improve energy efficiency and reduce the corresponding greenhouse gas emissions by 15 per cent.

Greg Spratt, advisor of environmental sustainability at Lilly, stated: "Our employees are eager to become more engaged and involved in protecting our environment and we are leveraging that commitment in order to help the company meet its aggressive energy goal."

Meanwhile, Lilly revealed earlier this month that it is to sell one of its manufacturing sites to Evonik Industries - one of the largest chemical firms in the world.
