Applied Biosystems launches 3500 Series Genetic Analyser
Applied Biosystems has launched its new 3500 Series Genetic Analyser, a piece of equipment designed solely for researchers, rather than for therapeutic or diagnostic use.
The product builds on Applied Biosystems’ capillary electrophoresis (CE) sequencing systems and incorporates state-of-the-art advancements, setting new standards for throughput, data quality and ease of use.
According to the firm, more than ten research institutions have been taking part in an early evaluation of the technology since May 2009.
The main area of focus is widely-recognised human genetic disorders, such as those caused by extra or missing chromosomes.
Kip Miller, president of the genetic systems division of Life Technologies, stated: "We expect that highly automated and simplified solutions enabling cost-effective analyses and repeatable high-quality data will allow researchers to broaden their applications for this technology."
In other Applied Biosystems news, the firm launched a new range of DNA kits earlier this month, which are designed to cater for the evolving needs of forensic laboratories.
