Chugai and fellow pharmaceutical firm Taisho have jointly submitted a new drug application for the active vitamin D3 derivative eldecalcitol.
During clinical trials, the product was shown to improve bone and calcium metabolism, increase bone density and reduce the chance of fractures in osteoporosis patients.
Therefore, the two companies argue that eldecalcitol will contribute significantly to improving the quality of life of people suffering from the condition.
They are now focused on their efforts to achieve early approval of eldecalcitol from the ministry of health, labour and welfare.
Chugai announced the opening of a new base earlier this month - the Chugai Academy for Advanced Oncology - which will see the group boost its efforts to contribute to the development of cancer treatments.
