| Life Technologies launches genomic analysis platform | Posted on 22/10/2009 in Scientific Life Technologies has released the SOLiD 3 Plus System - an enhanced next-generation genomic analysis facility that allows researchers to edge further towards performing mainstream sequencing of personal genomes for clinical research and personalised medicine.
The equipment is capable of generating more than 60 gigabases of mappable sequence data per run, at a 20 per cent lower cost per sequencing run than previously possible.
This also amounts to an approximate 50 per cent decrease in cost per gigabase, shorter run times and improved data analysis.
Kip Miller, president of the genetic systems division at Life Technologies, stated: "We believe the SOLiD System is the next-generation sequencing technology platform of choice for a broad range of advanced genomics research, including system biology and disease studies."
Last week, Life Technologies announced that it has appointed Jay Therrien as its new vice-president for next-generation sequencing.
