Astra Tech OsseoSpeed implant declared successful

Posted on 16/10/2009 in Dental Supplier News

Astra Tech has reported that a study into its OsseoSpeed implant has concluded that the product is a success.

Astra Tech's dental implant - the Astra Tech OsseoSpeed - has been ruled a success by a follow-up study into the product, which has been conducted five years after it was launched.

The trial was conducted by a team at the department of oral and maxillofacial surgery at Heidelberg University and concluded that the OsseoSpeed implant shows very good results in compromised sites when using an early-loading protocol.

Furthermore, the study showed no significant dip in implant stability quotient values - something traditionally seen in implants two to six weeks after their installation.

Doctor AnnaKarin Lundgren, head of scientific management at Astra Tech Dental, said that the minus 0.03 mm mean marginal bone level change reported is extremely good.

Astra Tech, which is a component of the AstraZeneca Group, is divided into two business units - dental and healthcare, of which the former is the fastest-growing.
