Lilly to sell manufacturing site to Evonik Industries
Lilly has announced its plans to sell one of its manufacturing sites to Evonik Industries – one of the largest chemical firms in the world.
As a result of the agreement, which includes a multi-year supply and services agreement, the 700 employees at the firms’ site will be offered employment with Evonik.
The facility will continue to operate, producing high-quality active pharmaceutical ingredients and specialty chemical and animal health products.
“At Lilly, we are taking the steps necessary to ensure our long-term success by becoming a leaner, more focused, more customer-oriented and more competitive company,” explained John Lechleiter, Lilly’s chairman and chief executive officer.
Last month, Lilly entered into a partnership with Academia Sinica, which will see the foundation contribute to the company’s Tuberculosis Drug Discovery Initiative.
The two organisations will also cooperate on target-based screening for the discovery of new tuberculosis cases.
