Posted on 03/09/2009 in Vet / Veterinary Surgeon News Pfizer Animal Health has announced the opening of a brand new fellowship programme, which is designed to give veterinary professionals the chance to study to become scientists while simultaneously maintaining their existing roles.
The Pfizer Animal Health Morris Animal Foundation (MAF) Veterinary Fellowship for Advanced Study allows candidates to access essential financial support while they pursue a career in veterinary research.
Pledging a minimum of almost $1.7 million (1.044 million pounds) over the space of four years, the initiative aims to help plug the deficit for trained veterinary scientists.
David Haworth, director of global alliances for Pfizer Animal Health, said: "Many practicing veterinarians may wish to become veterinary scientists but can't continue their educational journey due to financial constraints, such as high student debt."
Meanwhile, a product developed by Pfizer - the boar taint vaccine - has been outlined by FarmingUK as a potentially revolutionary treatment when it comes to improving the weight, growth and overall physical welfare of pigs.
