Posted on 12/08/2009 in Veterinary Supplier News Purina ALPOR brand dog food has conducted a survey which found that when it comes to pampering their pets, dog owners prefer simple luxuries to expensive treats.
According to the poll, only two per cent of dog owners have spent money on luxury treats such as pet spas and just one per cent said that they have taken their furry friend for a massage.
At the cheaper and simpler end of the spectrum, 79 per cent of respondents said that they regularly feed their dogs treats, while 73 per cent favour a belly rub and 69 per cent consider a walk to be a good reward for their pets.
Brian Kilcommons, dog expert and author, said the animals are happiest when they "can express their true inner-dogness - instinctual behaviors including sniffing, digging, eating, playing and sleeping that are in their DNA".
In related news, ALPOR is has launched a contest which is inviting owners to pen their favourite memories of their pets. The 20 chosen winners will have their stories published in a manual.
