| New NHS appointment voices his excitement | Posted on 03/07/2009 in Medical Government/ NHS related news Jim Easton is "really excited" about his new position as NHS national director for improvement and efficiency.
The aim of the role is to help the public body cut costs and increase standards of the quality of service it can offer.
Mr Eaton will advise staff on how to focus quality, innovation, productivity and prevention to enable them to deliver on commitments to efficiency ? something that was set out in Lord Darzi's High Quality Care for All report last year.
Currently, Mr Eaton works as the chief executive of the South Central Strategic Health Authority, a position he said he would be sad to leave.
However, he noted he could not resist the "important role" he has now accepted.
"Over the past year, the NHS has put in place the most compelling and ambitious, patient-focused vision," stated Mr Easton.
"We must plan to deliver significant efficiency savings whilst remaining true to our vision of high quality care for all."
Earlier this week, a one-year review of Lord Darzi's report was published, which outlined a number of areas that will be worked on to help meet targets.Other news stories from 03/07/2009
