| DoH reminds pubic of heatwave dangers | Posted on 03/07/2009 in Medical Government/ NHS related news The Department of Health (DoH) is reminding the public once again of the dangers people may face due to the high temperatures.
On behalf of the government body, the Met Office has now raised the heatwave warning alert from two to three.
This week, thermometers have been peeking at 33 degrees C, with London and the south-east being the worst affected regions.
"High temperatures can be dangerous, especially for the very young or very old or those with chronic disease," stated the DoH.
People who want advice on how to look after themselves or others during high temperatures should log onto the NHS Choices website or visit their local GP or pharmacist, the body added.
It is expected the heat will ease over the weekend and there will be cooler, more manageable conditions.
The NHS also recommends people to protect their skin against the sun by covering up with clothes, applying protection creams, wearing sunglasses and hats - and staying in the shade during midday.Other news stories from 03/07/2009
