| New GPhC will strengthen pharmacist regulations | Posted on 26/06/2009 in Medical Government/ NHS related news The new General Pharmaceutical Committee (GPhC) will modernise and strengthen the regulation of pharmacists and pharmacy technicians, it has been claimed.
Health minister Ann Keen made this comment after it was announced Robert Nicholls will chair the regulatory body.
With a CBE for services to healthcare, he is also a fellow and past president of the Institute of Healthcare Management.
Mr Nicholls will hold his new position for a four-year period and will be paid a salary of £48,000 per annum.
He noted being asked to chair the professional regulator is an honour.
"It is exciting to be involved in the creation of a new organisation ? at a time when the vital role of pharmacists is being extensively developed," Mr Nicholls said.
Commenting on the appointment, Ms Keen asserted she looks forward to working closely with him, adding he brings with him a wealth of expertise and experience.
