| Applied Biosystems announces new genomics tool | Posted on 23/06/2009 in Scientific Applied Biosystems has revealed a new sequencing-based tool which will advance the analysis of transcriptomes.
The SOLiD Whole Transcriptome Analysis Kit will enable scientists to better understand cell types such as stem cells.
It will do this by allowing the detailed characterisation of all expressed RNA in biological samples.
Kip Miller, president of Life Technologies' Genetic Systems Division, said the technology, "offers an optimiSed, integrated solution for the advancement of whole transcriptome analysis, resulting in the highest number of reads per run".
This will give "researchers the required sensitivity to detect rare transcripts, as well as the flexibility to analyse multiple samples".
Together, the system will help advance cancer and stem cell research.
Meanwhile, at the start of June the company announced it is introducing a new range of services to support its mass spectrometry customers.
Services included a new maintenance program for high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) systems and auto-samplers and an expanded Web-based solution for remote monitoring of the latest Applied Biosystems/MDS Analytical Technologies mass spectrometry systems.
