The New York Yankees' first baseman Mark Teixeira is assisting the company with its Help Strike Out Sun Damage campaign.
Also collaborating with the scheme is the National Foundation for Cancer Research (NFCR) and the hope is to explain to people the importance of protecting the skin when out and about.
Members of the public who want to pledge their support to the cause can sign up to the website www.coppertone.com. Every time a person does this, $1 (60 pence) will be donated to studies about skin diseases caused by exposure to UV rays.
President of the NFCR Franklin Salisbury said the charity is committed to informing people how they can reduce the risk of developing the medical condition.
"Certain forms of skin cancer are preventable and we hope this programme will help raise awareness of the importance of sun protection," he commented.
The NFCR advises people eating dark green vegetables can make the body's surface healthier and it suggests keeping hydrated when out and about.Other news stories from 18/06/2009
