| Hotline launched to support carers | Posted on 10/06/2009 in Medical Government/ NHS related news A new hotline has been launched to support carers across the country.
Care services minister Phil Hope noted if people whose job it is to look after the ill, frail or disabled find it hard to access information, it can make their lives unnecessarily difficult.
Now a phone line will be available to assist the five million workers in this sector to give them details about time off, budgets, direct payments, benefits and assessments.
Mr Hope commented: "The Carers Strategy has already gone a long way to better support carers, but there is still a lot of work to do."
The 2.8 million pound scheme will help those who wish to leave or return to employment, give advice to those who want more training and offer guidance on how to access details about the people they are looking after.
Minister for disabled people Jonathan Shaw added the helpline will work alongside the DirectGov website to make sure carers are given the support they need.
Meanwhile, a new taskforce was launched last month to help females who are victims of abuse or violence.Other news stories from 10/06/2009
