| Abbott says co-promoting Trilipix will educate physicians | Posted on 05/06/2009 in Pharmaceutical Company Product News Abbott's agreement with AstraZeneca will enable it to better inform medical professionals about its drug Trilipix (fenofibric acid), it has claimed.
The medication is intended to treat certain lipid disorders, either as a stand-alone therapy or in combination with a statin.
As a result of the partnership, AstraZeneca will gain the non-exclusive rights to co-promote the drug with Abbott in some locations.
Divisional vice-president of the latter's primary care department Jeffrey Stewart noted the company's portfolio of lipid therapies are designed to help doctors manage people with one of the conditions.
"With AstraZeneca's established presence in the cardiovascular space, this agreement allows Abbott to expand visibility and education of Trilipix among physicians whose patients may benefit from this medication," he remarked.
Financial terms of the deal about the co-promotion of the prescription drug have not been disclosed.
Abbott and AstraZeneca have also submitted a new drug application to the Food and Drug Administration for a compound containing Crestor (rosuvastatin calcium) and Trilipix (fenofibric acid) to aid mixed dyslipidemia.Other news stories from 05/06/2009
