A new study undertaken by ERA Technology has shown the use of PerkinElmer technology has helped prevent fires, as well as reduce associated fatalities and casualties.
Indeed, through the use of the PerkinElmer's OEM smoke systems some 372,000 fires were found to have been prevented.
According to the ERS Technology report, the cost of fire represents 0.65 per cent of the world's gross domestic product. However, the savings made through use of the aforementioned devices is estimated at $16 billion (£10 billion) over a five-year period.
Looking to the future, David Nislick, president of illumination and detection solutions at the corporation, commented: "We are focusing on new advances in our detection portfolio not only for smoke detection, but a range of other demanding safety and security applications.
In related news, PerkinElmer recently announced the launch of its infrared sensing and photon detection solutions, to be used in critical environmental and human health applications.
