| Health minister pleased to donate funding for new hospice | Posted on 28/05/2009 in Medical Government/ NHS related news A new hospice in Wales is to receive some £2.9 million in funding from the Welsh assembly.
Government finance is to be provided for the development of the purpose-built centre St David's Foundation Hospice in Newport, according to the assembly.
Replacing more outdated facilities, the new hospice will have consultant-led out-patient clinics and chemotherapy outreach clinics, as well as providing rapid response hospice at home services.
In addition, on-call clinical nurse specialist services will be available at the new centre.
Commenting on the project, health minister Edwina Hart said: "I am pleased to be able to provide capital funding towards the cost of building this new hospice.
"This is an example of the public and voluntary sector working together closely to improve care for patients and their families."
The charity was founded in 1979 and provides care for 2,600 families every year.
The Welsh Assembly Government is the institution responsible for issues relating to the economy, health, education and local government of the entire principality.Other news stories from 28/05/2009
